ABOUT COOK INLET, ALASKA
Rimmed by volcanoes and restless sea, Cook Inlet is a landscape in motion. From Anchorage to Homer, Kenai to Ninilchik, this tidal basin breathes in pulses of gray waterways and wind, its mudflats stretching like the skin of a sleeping giant. Beluga whales shimmer in the shallows while bald eagles ride thermals over sedge meadows. Inland, the Aleutian Range rises in smoldering peaks (Redoubt, Iliamna, Augustine) casting shadows on the salt-stung surf. Here, the land remembers: gold rush boomtowns now overgrown with alder, ancient fish camps still marked by fire rings and bone. In the Inlet, the line between land and sea shifts hourly and daily.
